How to Cut Watermelon Sticks

  • Place your watermelon onto a cutting board. Using a sharp chef's knife, cut a round watermelon in half.
  • Then, flip one of the watermelon halves over, with the flat surface facing down on the cutting board. Next, cut off four edges and then, slice it lengthwise, about 1-inch apart, creating a checkboard.

  • Run your knife down the edges to remove the watermelon rind. Make sure to follow the curve of the watermelon. Next, trim away any white spots you may have missed above the red flesh.
  • Lay the peeled watermelon on its side and slice the fruit into rounds (thick circular slices), about 1 inch thick.
  • Place each round on a cutting board, cut into long sticks (1-inch thick), and then crosswise, also 1-inch thick.

STORAGE
  • FRIDGE: Cut watermelon is best consumed fresh! However, you can store in the fridge in an airtight container, for up to 3-5 days. If it isn't properly sealed, it can absorb flavors from the fridge. 
  • FREEZER: Store cut watermelon in the freezer, in a freezer bag, for up to 2 months. But once thawed, it can become mushy. Frozen watermelon is best used to make juices, smoothies, slushies, and cocktail drinks.
