    Turmeric Shot Benefits

    These homemade turmeric shots contain turmeric (and its main ingredient curcumin). According to this Healthline article, among its many potential benefits, turmeric wellness shots are good for:

    • Potentially reduce chronic inflammation;
    • Containing high levels of antioxidants;
    • Potentially improve memory;
    • Potentially help with mood disorders such as depression;
    • Helping to boost immunity.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

    Ingredients on a table.

    To make these turmeric shots recipe, you'll need:

    • 4 ounces fresh turmeric root, washed and peeled (about ½ cup), or 1 teaspoon of organic turmeric powder (Alternatively, you may replace it with ½ this amount of fresh ginger root to make ginger turmeric shots).
    • 4 ounces carrots (about ¾ cup)
    • 2 navel oranges (either squeezed or use the whole pulp)
    • 4 fresh lemons, squeezed (or limes)
    • ¾ coconut water (or regular water)
    • 1 tablespoon raw honey (stevia in the raw if you are diabetic, or pure maple syrup for a vegan recipe). I prefer honey because it is a natural prebiotic!
    • A pinch of ground black pepper ( "Research supports that combining the piperine in black pepper with the curcumin in turmeric enhances the absorption of curcumin by up to 2,000%" according to this source).

    Variations

    You can make variations of our wellness shot recipe as follows:

    • Fruits: You may replace orange and lemon with pineapple or mango, making these turmeric wellness shots a bit sweeter without needing to add any sweetener such as maple syrup, stevia, or honey.
    • Roots: You may add ginger to our recipe, making lemon ginger turmeric shots or ginger turmeric shots plus a pinch of cayenne for preparing ginger turmeric cayenne shots. Or, you may use galangal root to brew tea and use it as a liquid for our healthy shots instead of coconut water.
    • Liquid: Instead of coconut water or regular water, you may use sparkling water, or pineapple, mango, ginger, or citrus juices. These wellness shots are better than store-bought turmeric shots such as Vive or Suja!

    Expert Tips for Making This Turmeric Shot Recipe

    • Instead of buying Costco or Trader Joe's turmeric shots, make your own at home and save big bucks.
    • Shake them well before drinking because the ingredients tend to settle at the bottom.
    • Instead of discarding the solids separated from the liquid, you may freeze them to use in curries, soups, teas, juices, and smoothies.
    • Wash your produce, especially turmeric roots which have a lot of dirt on the peel.
    • Make sure to strain the liquid after blending the ingredients in a high-powered blender. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
    • Turmeric contains an earthy flavor with a touch of sweetness. It pairs quite well with citrus fruits and liquids such as lemonade and fresh lime juice. For a more concentrated flavor, drink our turmeric wellness shots by themselves.

    FAQs

    How many turmeric shots can I drink per day?

    According to this article, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the safe consumption of 1.4 mg of turmeric powder per pound (0–3 mg per kilogram) of body weight daily to receive the benefits of turmeric. This means that you can consume about 1 2 fl.oz (or 60ml) shot bottle per day for a long time. However, it may vary depending on the health condition you want to treat.

    What is the best time to take turmeric shots?

    According to the National Library of Medicine, tests showed taking turmeric in the morning had a stronger antioxidant effect than in the evening. GoodRx Health mentions it should be taken with some kind of fat (e.g. eggs, coconut oil) to increase its absorption. Due to their energy-boosting and potential anti-inflammatory properties, they are also good just before or after exercise.
