Easy, delicious, and super cute Chocolate Apple Halloween Owl made from 5 ingredients only -- a favorite of both children and adults.

Chocolate Apple Halloween Owl over a table with garnishing on the side

Halloween arrived! I made a special treat: this Chocolate Apple Halloween Owl!!! Isn't that just the cutest little treat? My children are as happy as can be. I hope that yours will be also!

Our Chocolate Apple Halloween Owl is much funnier and quicker to make than cupcakes. I am telling you, kids go crazy for it. Well, who wouldn't? I am an adult, and am cuckoo-crazy for this delish and easy Halloween Owl.

This Apple Owl is also a great Halloween cooking project to get children involved in. Mostly all that you need is sliced apples, melted chocolate, oreos, and candies to decorate. Nothing could be easier to prepare than our cute Owl.

At any rate, if you still wish to add cupcakes to your party, I have a great one for you: Our SPOOKY Brigadeiro Cupcakes -- three different ways.

Have a wonderful month, and a fun Halloween!

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE APPLE HALLOWEEN OWL

Sit apples upright on a wood board and slice from top to bottom (about 4 slices per apple, ½-inch thick). Remove seeds gently.

Then, line a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil and push the pointed end of each stick up into the bottom of each apple slice.

In a medium glass bowl, melt chocolate chips in the microwave. Follow the package directions! Then place bowl with melted chocolate into a larger bowl filled with about 2-inch boiling water (this will help chocolate to not harden).

Dip apple slices in chocolate using a spoon to help cover each slice if your bowl isn't deep enough to cover them.

Allow excess chocolate to drip off, then lay flat on the foil-lined baking sheet.

Use the oreos to decorate both the eyes and ears of the apple owl and the candy corn for the nose while chocolate is still wet. Use a small dot of melted chocolate as a glue for the candy eyeballs.

Place the baking sheet in the fridge for approximately 10-15 minutes, allowing chocolate to harden. If you wish, tie wood stick with a ribbon. Serve these chocolate treats and enjoy!

Is there a trick to getting the Oreo creme to come out perfectly on one side of the cookie? I'm trying to make the Halloween owls right now and having trouble with the Oreos... We're having lots of 'do-overs'... Haha! I've tried the twisting method, pulling really fast, using a knife and haven't seen one method work too well yet. Any helpful tips would be great! Thanks!

        Hi, Brittany!
I only saw your message this morning. Sorry!
I know how difficult it is to keep the cream intact. I also had several do-overs. What might work is to leave the cookies for a minute or two on top of a heated baking sheet (lined with parchment paper) so the cream can soften a bit, and then the top comes off more easily when gently twisted, or you can also use a paring knife to help you separate the softened cream from the top cookie, working carefully. You may have to smooth over the top layer of the cream with a small, non-serrated knife and let harden again. I hope these suggestions work out better for you.

Thanks, Denise, for the tip! I finally got into a groove and was able to make 24 of these Halloween owls for a party at work tomorrow! So excited and they turned out great!

Is it recommended to just put these in the fridge or does a freezer work too? Our party at work is around noon and with only one small fridge in the office, I wasn't sure if freezing these overnight would help them keep longer tomorrow in case there isn't room in our fridge. Any thoughts on that?

Please, store them in the refrigerator only!!! The freezer can make the chocolate crack and the treats hard to bite. In addition, once the treats come to room temperature, they would be watery. It is best to store in the refrigerator. Take them out about 5 minutes prior to serve. Wishing you all a Happy Halloween.

These are so great. Halloween is on Friday but I wanted to make them today. Do you think I can make them 5 days ahead of time?

        Genevieve:
Thanks a lot for stopping by. To make these owls 5 days ahead as you want, I'd slice the apples the way presented in my recipe and then, I'd follow the process below to prevent the apple to become brown, staying fresh for days:
        https://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2013/10/how-to-keep-sliced-apples-fresh.html
One day or two before serving them, I'd cover them in chocolate, decorate, and refrigerate according to my recipe. About 5 minutes before serving them, I'd let them rest at room temp so they wouldn't be hard to bite. Enjoy and Happy Halloween!!!
