    Avocado Smoothie Benefits

    • Creamy, refreshing, and delicious
    • Quick and easy to prepare with 4-5 ingredients
    • Nutritious: High-protein, low-carb, low-calorie, and it contains healthy fats,  fiber, vitamins, and minerals. According to Medical News Today, "avocados are a source of vitamins C, E, K, and B6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids."
Two glasses of a weight loss avocado smoothie for breakfast or snack.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

    • ½ small avocado, fresh or frozen. OPTIONAL ADD-ONS: ¼ cup fresh spinach or blueberries (keto), or frozen banana, mango, or cherry (for a non-keto version). TIP: If you don't intend to drink your smoothie right away, add a few drops of lime juice to prevent the avocado from turning brown!
    • 1 scoop protein powder (I used sugar-free whey isolate, vanilla flavored. However, you can use plain Greek yogurt, or a chocolate protein powder to make a chocolate avocado smoothie). For a vegan avocado smoothie, use a vegan protein powder)
    • ¾ cup unsweetened plant-based milk such as coconut milk or almond milk. For a thinner smoothie, add a little more milk. For a thicker smoothie, add more avocado or another fruit)
    • 1 teaspoon chia seeds, optional (or sugar-free peanut butter, or hemp seeds)
    • Sugar substitute, to taste such as stevia in the raw (or any other sweetener of your choice)
    • Ice cubes (if using fresh avocado)

    FAQs

How many calories are in a keto avocado shake for weight loss?

The number of calories may vary depending on the type of protein powder, sugar substitute, and plant-based milk you use. However, our healthy avocado shake has about 226 calories, 26 g protein, and 3.7 g net carbs.

How long can I keep an avocado smoothie?

This avocado smoothie should be consumed immediately; otherwise, it will turn brown. If you add lime juice, it will keep up to 24 hours, covered, in the fridge with a little discoloration.

    Can I taste the avocado?

Yes! However, the taste is mild. If you prefer not to taste the fruit, add cacao powder or use a chocolate protein powder.

STORAGE: Consume this avocado smoothie right away, or the avocado will darken. But you can refrigerate covered for up to 24 hours. Remove the darkened layer from the top and mix well before drinking. TIP: Stir a few drops of lime/lemon juice before refrigerating. It will help the avocado from turning brown.

Hi, Cathleen! I hope you try this. This smoothie has the creaminess of the avocado combined with the great flavor of vanilla Carnation product. My children are not big fans of avocados but they drank this smoothie without any problem because of its vanilla flavor. Actually, they loved it so much that they asked me to make it several times. Give it a try and see what you think.
I know how difficult can be when one is already used to eat avocados in a certain way. Avocado is a fruit and and Brazil we eat it sprinkled with sugar, in smoothies, ice creams, and desserts. When I tried guacamole for the first time here in the US, I hated it. It took me about 2 years to get used to it, but nowadays I love it. I consume avocados in both savory and sweet dishes.
Wishing a delicious and healthy week!

This is a very nutritious recipe Denise!! Perfect for breakfast!! We only have a question. Since we don't have Carnation Breakfast Essentials in Greece, can we replace it by adding vanilla extract in the milk? Will this change the flavor?

I see. No worries! You can add a bit of vanilla extract to the milk. You can also decrease a little bit the amount of milk -- just enough to make the smoothie thick since you're not adding carnation to your avocado smoothie. Enjoy!!!

Oh how I long to be sipping summer smoothies. It was minus 8c this morning. WT Fudge is that all about?! LOL. I love the look of your avo shake, very refreshing. I didnt really have too many of the avocado smoothie this past summer, they were rather expensive, so only for a treat. Fingers crossed next summer is better.

Hope you are well lovely lady. Happy hugs from Australia, enjoy your weekend too. 🙂
