Love ribeye steak but bummed about the fact that you can't grill it all year round-- especially in the winter? Well, I have the solution for you! Cook it in the air fryer!

It will save you time and it's healthier! Our ribeye steak recipe is keto, paleo, and gluten-free!

I served our steak topped with a pat of herby butter and cooked low-carb veggies but you can serve it with whatever you want. It’s up to you!

It’s perfect for a couple’s dinner (your honey will love it!!!) or for a special family dinner. Special occasions are best because ribeye steak is not as budget-friendly as other steaks.

    Reasons to make this recipe

    • It is quick and easy: It takes about 8-10 minutes to cook for medium-rare.
    • Healthy: It calls for a minimum amount of olive oil (just enough to brush the steak and get a good sear). Plus it is keto, paleo, and gluten-free!
    • Mess-free: It requires very few utensils to prepare it, leaving you with almost no dishes to wash later!
    • It is super delish!

    Ingredients for Air Fryer Ribeye

This air fryer ribeye steak recipe calls for just 4 ingredients as follows:

    • Ribeye steak – Make sure to buy ribeye steaks (either bone-in or boneless) that are 1 inch thick. They will cook quickly without getting dry. The boneless ones cook just a little faster. It is key to take them out of the fridge 20-30 minutes before cooking to guarantee even cooking and also to pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture in order to get a browned crust or exterior.
    • Olive oil – It will help them to brown!
    • Seasoning blend – It will add great flavor to the meat. After seasoning them, let them absorb the spices for at least 10 minutes at room temp before cooking them. I used our homemade taco seasoning mix!
    • Italian seasoning – Mix a store-bought Italian seasoning with our homemade taco seasoning for optimal flavor. It's also used to make the best roast beef recipe.
    • Herby butter (OPTIONAL) – It is optional as a topping but it will boost the flavor of the final dish.

    Air Fryer Steak Recipe

    1. To cook this steak in air fryer, remove the steak from the fridge about 20-30 minutes before cooking and pat them dry with a paper towel. It will guarantee even cooking and also a well-browned exterior.
    2. Meanwhile, preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5-10 minutes. During this time, brush olive oil all over the steaks and season them well with a mixture of our homemade taco seasoning and  Italian seasoning. Let them absorb the spices at room temp for at least 10 minutes.
    3. Place the steaks into the air fryer basket. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. In order to cook evenly, you have to leave space for the hot air to circulate!
    4. Cook each steak for about 8-10 minutes for medium-rare, flipping them halfway through.
    5. Then, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part (but not touching the bone if yours is bone-in). It must reach at least 135-145 F for medium-rare. If bone-in, it may take a few minutes more to cook.
    6. Once cooked, remove the steaks from the air fryer, cover them with foil, and let them rest for 5 minutes to lock in their juices and serve with your favorite sides. I topped mine with a pat of herby butter and served it with cooked low-carb veggies.

    Air Fryer Steak Cooking Chart

For boneless ribeye steak that is 1-inch thick, cook for:

    • 5-6 minutes (for Rare: 125°-130°F)
    • 8-10 minutes (for Medium-Rare: 130°-140°F)
    • 12-14 ( Medium: 140°-150°F)
    • 16-18 minutes (for Medium-Well: 150°-160°F)
    • 20 minutes ( for Well-Done: Over 160°F)

As always, check their internal temperature by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak (without touching the bone though). That is the best way to make sure your steak is cooked to your preferred level of doneness.

According to the FDA, beef must be cooked to at least 145° F (63° C) with a 3-minute rest time to be safe.

Can I cook frozen steak in air fryer?

Yes, although it will take 5-10 minutes longer to cook and the excess moisture may prevent the exterior to brown properly. To do this, place the frozen steak in a preheated air fryer at 400 degrees F and let it “cook” for 5-10 minutes or until defrosted. Then pat dry, season, and cook the steak to your preferred level of doneness.

Some tips for cooking steak in air fryer

Here are a few useful tips to cook ribeye steak in air fryer:

    • To air fry steak properly, bring the steak to room temperature before you cook it. This is key to even cooking!
    • Season the steak very well and let it rest at room temp to absorb the spices. Don’t be shy! Press the seasonings into the meat with your hands.
    • Preheat your air fryer before adding the steak to it for 5-10 minutes at least or until hot.
    • Flip the steaks halfway through the cooking time, if you want to sear them well on both sides.
    • After cooking, remove the steak to a plate, cover it with foil, and let rest for 3-5 minutes to lock in the juices.
    • Use a meat thermometer to check the level of doneness.

    What to serve with?

Here are a few sides that you can serve with our air fryer ribeye:

    • Air fryer asparagus
    • Instant Pot Brussels sprouts
    • Roasted carrots and parsnips
    • Yuca fries
    • Beet goat cheese salad

    Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Freeze for up to 3 months!

Thaw in the fridge and reheat in the microwave or air fryer just until hot.

Your steak looks perfectly cooked. No air fryer here, we sear it on the stovetop and finish it in the oven. We had one last night that looked just like yours, delicious.
